FANTASY OF LIGHTS PARADE
Hello Dance Families,
I want to invite all dancers ages 7 and up to participate in Howell's Fantasy of Lights Parade on the evening of Friday, November 29th. Inspired Creations Dance Studio will be walking/dancing in the parade. We do NOT have a float, so make sure your dancer knows it is a lot of walking and dancing! The parade ends near Miss Kayla's house where hot chocolate and donuts will be provided while dancers wait to be picked up by parents.
- Why can't dancers under the age of 7 years old participate? This event is for dancers 7+years only. The reason for the age restriction is because we will not have a float. They will be dancing almost the entire length of the parade, and it is quite a long parade with a LONG wait time before the start of the parade as well. The committee in charge of putting on the parade is very strict with their rules about not slowing down the pace of parade, and I know that it is much harder for the younger dancers to keep up with all of the dancing, as our dancing moves in a continual forward direction during the entirety parade (we are not allowed to stop at any point to dance). Thank you for your understanding!
If you are interested in joining us, please sign-up here, or sign-up at the studio at the front desk. Adult dancers, this means you too! Please let us know by no later than Thursday, November 14th if you will be participating in the parade. We need to know how many dancers we will have so that we can make sure we have enough hats and tutus ready since we have to sew on the lights!
Practice Information:
We will be having only 1 practice at the dance studio this year to learn and practice choreography for the parade. (I will also send out a video of the choreography to all dancers who will be participating). Dancers will receive their hats and tutus at this practice, so if you are unable to attend the practice, please indicate that on the sign-up form so we can be sure to get your parade items to you.
Practice day/time: Sunday, November 17th from 5:00-6:00pm
Parade Attire:
In an effort to look as uniform as possible, we would like all dancers to wear black (leggings, sweatpants, sweatshirts, etc.). Be sure to dress in lots of layers to stay warm! If you do not have black you can wear for the parade, try to at least wear dark colors. We recommend wearing gloves and bringing hand warmers! Dancers will get to wear lighted Santa hats and girls will also wear lighted tutus provided by the studio. For extra lights, we are encouraging all dancers to wear their own Christmas necklaces that light up. You may want to pin them to your shirt so they don't fly around while dancing.
You are welcome to wear coats if needed to stay warm, as we will be outside for a bit before the parade starts. We will have a few wagons we will be pulling that dancers can put their coats in when the parade starts (so please make sure to wear lots of layers to stay warm during the parade!). We are in need of two more wagons, so if you have one we can borrow for the parade, please let us know! We will be decorating the wagons with lots of lights for the parade.
Parade Details:
Based on information from last year, dancers will need to arrive for the parade between 5:00-5:30pm. They need to be there for judging, which usually takes place at around 5:30-6:15pm. The parade will begin at 7:00pm.
The parade usually ends at Elm Street, so we recommend parking on that end of town to make it easier to pick up your dancer after the parade. You can pick your dancer up at Miss Kayla's house on W. Park St. (one street east of Elm). We will have tables and chairs set up in Miss Kayla's garage, and we will provide hot chocolate and donuts for all of the dancers while they wait, so feel free to stay and enjoy the entire parade if you would like.
More detailed information (such as where to drop off & line up) will be provided once we get a little closer to the event. We will be lining up somewhere along Grand River Avenue just west of downtown Howell, but I won't have the exact information until they have a meeting with all of the parade entry representatives, which usually doesn't happen until a week or two before the event. But as soon as I have more details, I will let you know!
We hope you will join us for this year's parade if you are able! We had a blast last year and are looking forward to being a part of the parade again this year!
Blessings,
Kayla Daley
